Wieliczka Salt Mine
Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the oldest salt mines in the World. Salt mining started in middle ages when salt was very important product and that was the reason why mine operated constantly till 1996 year.
Salt Mine has nine levels, the first named "Bono" riches 64 meters of depth and last level is situated at 327 meter under the ground level. Total length of all corridors is more than 300 kilometers that join almost three thousand different excavations. World known sightseeing route of Wieliczka Salt mine was created between XVIII and XIX century and is it attended by millions of tourists every year. Sightseeing route consist of 20 chambers located at 64 to 135 meters underground, the length of the route is approximately 3km.
Wieliczka salt mine is characterized by its unique microclimate of high humidity air rich with sodium chloride, calcium, magnesium and manganese content, as well as all year constant temperature. That microclimate fosters health with especially good influence on upper respiratory tracts.
Significant fact is that in 1978 Wieliczka Salt Mine was inscribed by UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
